I've been making my own greeting cards forever, now. I can't really say with any certainty when I began, but I remember it was one Christmas and I was tired of buying stupid, meaningless-to-me Christmas cards to send to family and friends, so I made my own. Why not? I can draw, I'm fairly clever ...no problem.
And it wasn't a problem, either -it was doggone easy! I did a simple drawing, copied it, folded them, and stuck them in envelopes. Simple. This began a tradition of sorts and I make them every year, now. They've gotten complicated, too. Card stock, 5x7 dimensions, full color, multiple layered drawings, mass-production ...it has certainly become something I hadn't originally intended. I do, however, really, really enjoy it. So I got the idea that I should expand from just Christmas cards to others (Easter, Halloween, Mother's and Father's day, etc.) and try to sell them. I also noticed that characters like Maxine are popular, so I came up with two characters, Meredith and Herman. So I cracked open the spine on the Graphics Artist's Market book again, poured through it looking for a good match for my greeting card style, and sent off mailings like crazy again. This book has gotten a workout, believe me. Nothing ever really happened with them yet, but I'm hopeful that someday I'll be able to make cards for a living.
